Annual ESSENCE Members’ Meeting

A group of ESSENCE members and other stakeholders came together for the annual ESSENCE members’ meeting and the meeting of ESSENCE Mechanism in Rockville, MD. Topics discussed were a brief overview of ESSENCE and its work, updates from the Working Groups, updates from participants, work being done in Global Health Research by different organisations and most importantly to look ahead.

ESSENCE Members Mini Meeting - Virtual

The meeting allowed for regular updates to members and endorsement of the "quick research capacity strengthening guide" good practice document recently developed. It was also an opportunity to receive suggestions for potential new areas for the different working groups.

Third Meeting of the ESSENCE Mechanism for Review of Investments in Research Capacity Strengthening in LMICs focused on Funder Coordination (virtual)

This is the third meeting of the ESSENCE Mechanism. This year’s meeting the
objective was to convene funders of global health research capacity strengthening (HRCS) for clinical research related to pandemic preparedness and share information on current and future key initiatives.

This was the annual meeting of members to provide an update on the activities of ESSENCE working groups and to obtain feedback into ongoing projects.

The Second Meeting of the ESSENCE Mechanism

This was a virtual plenary meeting hosted by WHO TDR with expert presentations and discussion around improving donor coordination and the use of data and metrics to increase effectiveness and equity in strengthening capacity for research for health.

ESSENCE Members Mini-Meeting at the side of EDCTP Forum

This was a virtual meeting at the side of the 10th EDCTP Forum held as a hybrid meeting in Maputo from 17-21 October 2021. The meeting provided an excellent opportunity for the group to receive input into some of the key projects that are ongoing.

ESSENCE Members Annual Meeting Via ZOOM

The 2021 annual members meeting gathered participants and speakers involved in research capacity strengthening efforts to advance building partnerships for a changing world. The minutes report is available here to provide an overview of the event.

4-5 June 2020

Inaugural Meeting of the ESSENCE Mechanism for review of investments

The stakeholder meeting gathered speakers and 70+ diverse stakeholders from Africa, Asia and Latin America dealing with the theme of capacity building for research for health; and offered additional perspectives on priority actions to further the goals of the ESSENCE Mechanism.

ESSENCE Members Annual Meeting via WebEx

The meeting allowed for input from members on the current COVID-19 context and challenges exchange ideas about issues on the horizon as well as an endorsement of updates from many current projects and related good practice documents.

2019 ESSENCE Members Meeting in London, UK

The meeting was hosted by Wellcome. There were constructive exchanges throughout the two days even as members shared their experiences and gave updates on their current and future plans.

4-5 March 2019

ESSENCE Stakeholders Meeting on Follow up to International Vaccine Research Taskforce (IVTF) Recommendations hosted by TDR, Geneva

The meeting gathered together representation from LMICs and major external funders of clinical research capacity to provide input for recommendations for a mechanism to review funding for clinical research capacity building in response to the World Bank and CEPI report, Money and Microbes. In terms of the substantial engagement of all participants to the discussion, the meeting can be considered a success.

ESSENCE Members’ Side Meeting in Lisbon, Portugal

The European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) Ninth Forum meeting hosted an ESSENCE members’ side meeting in Lisbon, Portugal. It was an excellent opportunity for the participants to provide updates and raise points of common interest and possible collaborations.
