Summary
The creation of FAME (Forum for African Medical Editors) has been the first step taken by 15 African medical journal editors to set up a professional association and network that will review the problems faced by African health and medical journals and try to find common solutions.
FAME was launched officially on 30 September 2003 during the 24th African Health Sciences Congress in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The actual Constitution was ratified by 20 FAME members during the first FAME General Assembly and a Board of Trustees was elected. Professor James K. Tumwine, Editor of African Health Sciences, at the Faculty of Medicine of Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda, is the Chair of FAME. Professor Siaka Sidibe, Editor of Mali Médical at the Faculty of Medicine of Bamako, Mali, is the Vice Chair.
