Overview
Onchocerciasis remains serious public health in large parts of tropical Africa where some 18 million people are affected. The most severe consequence of onchocerciasis is blindness, which may afflict over one-third of the adult population of the most affected communities. Other important problems are severe skin disease and maddening itching which cause great suffering to millions of people.
