To strengthen local capacities to eradicate neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in Burkina Faso, Guinea and Senegal, TDR supported a research training workshop organized by the African Center of Excellence for the Prevention and Control of Communicable Diseases (CEA-PCMT).
Held in Conakry, Guinea, and part of TDR's Structured Operational Research and Training Initiative (SORT IT), the workshop supported health professionals responding to major health challenges in West Africa. Its main objective was to strengthen local capacities in operational research, particularly in the collection, analysis and use of data to improve decision-making and communication of research results.
The workshop also served to strengthen collaboration between African institutions and create a strong network, said Professor Alexandre Delamou, Director General of CEA-PCMT.
Among the workshop participants were three managers of Guinea's National Programme for the Fight against Neglected Tropical Diseases with Preventive Chemotherapy (PNLMTN-CP). "It is an advantage for us to take part in this course to gain expertise and pass it on to others," said Dr Nouhou Konkouré Diallo, the programme's national coordinator. The problems on the ground never end, and we will always have to look to try to resolve these problems."
