Dear colleagues and friends,
It was with great sadness that we learned that Dr Noel R. Juban had passed away on 24 January 2022. He was 60 years old.

Dr Juban, MD, MSc was a professor in Basic and Clinical Epidemiology at the College of Medicine, University of the Philippines Manila with more than 25 years of experience in research, education and training. He led and organized local and international projects in coordination with WHO, TDR, International Development Research Center of Canada, USAID, Rockefeller Foundation, the World Bank, the Philippine Department of Health, and the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development.
In 2017, Dr Juban joined the Social Innovation in Health Initiative (SIHI) supported by TDR and its donors, with additional funding from Sida, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency. Noel established the SIHI Philippines Hub, which aims to utilize social innovation in addressing persistent and systemic health challenges through research, capacity building and advocacy. He introduced social innovation within the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development and helped create the Gelia Castillo Award for Research on Social Innovations in Health (GCARSIH). An extraordinary SIHI champion, Dr Juban established and co-led the SIHI Secretariat in 2020, based at the University of the Philippines Manilla.
His kindness, caring leadership and strategic vision will be missed yet they will continue inspiring his SIHI colleagues and friends. We would like to celebrate a life very well lived and keep the flame of his vision for Health for All alive.
Our deepest sympathies and condolences are with Dr Juban’s family, friends and past colleagues.
Sincerely,
John Reeder
