The members of TDR’s Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee (STAC) met in person at WHO headquarters on 15-16 March 2023 to review the achievements made by the Programme in 2022. The meeting included discussions on a new Strategy that is being developed for the 2024-2029 period.

TDR Director John Reeder and the leadership team presented the key achievements made in the three strategic areas of Research for implementation, Strengthening research capacity and Global engagement. The achievements are also highlighted in the 2022 annual report.

STAC members showed enthusiasm for many of the research initiatives such as helping countries prepare for disease outbreaks, implementing a One Health approach to tackling vector-borne diseases, building effective systems for monitoring and responding to antimicrobial resistance, and supporting efforts in Eastern Africa to eliminate visceral leishmaniasis. TDR is also building health research leadership capacity in low- and middle-income countries through its Postgraduate Training Scheme and Clinical Research Leadership programmes.

“The progress made on TDR’s broad scope of work is very impressive given its lean secretariat,” said Margaret Gyapong, Chair of STAC and Director of the Institute of Health Research at the University of Health and Allied Sciences in Ghana.
