Eighteen researchers have been selected to receive Clinical Research and Development Fellowships from TDR.

TDR’s Clinical Research and Development Fellowship (CRDF) programme enables early- to mid-career researchers in low- and middle-income countries to learn how to conduct clinical trials. Selected fellows are placed for 12 months in training partner organizations (pharmaceutical companies, product development partnerships, or research organizations) and then receive a reintegration grant for 12 months at their home institution. The CRDF programme is supported through funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

A recent survey of researchers who have received training from TDR programmes found that 66% of the CRDF alumni are currently involved in COVID-19 response activities in 27 countries. These include scientists engaged in research; critical preparedness and response; situation analysis and surveillance; infection control and clinical management; and data generation analysis and reporting.

“Through the Clinical Research and Development Fellowships, this new cohort of researchers will contribute to building critical research capacity in low- and middle-income countries, as seen during the current pandemic,” said Dr Dermot Maher, who heads TDR’s Research Capacity Strengthening unit.

More details on the fellowship as well as profiles of former fellows can be found on our website.
