TDR’s Clinical Research Leadership programme aims to develop internationally recognized research leaders in low- and middle-income countries. Following a call for applications, TDR and training partners have selected 16 fellows who will begin their fellowships this year.
The programme focuses on developing research leadership skills, with fellows using their clinical research skills in conjunction with competencies and capabilities to effectively lead, communicate with and support members of a multidisciplinary team. The fellowship includes up to 24 months of training at a leading clinical research organization as well as support for strengthening fellows’ home institutions upon completion of the training.
Among 353 applicants, 16 were selected (8 men and 8 women) from Bangladesh, Colombia, Democratic Republic of the Congo (2), Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana (2), India, Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda (3), United Republic of Tanzania and Zambia. The fellows will be placed at BioNTech SE, European Vaccine Institute, Gadjah Mada University, GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals S.A., Infectious Diseases Data Observatory, International Vaccine Institute, Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, Otsuka Pharmaceutical GmbH, Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, Uganda Virus Research Institute and University of Cape Town.

“By providing Clinical Research Leadership fellows with comprehensive training and leadership development, we aim for them to lead transformative research efforts that address critical health challenges,” said Dr John Reeder, TDR Director. “We are excited to see the positive impact these future leaders will have on global health and their home institutions."
