A recent roundtable discussion supported by the ESSENCE in Health Research initiative, whose Secretariat is hosted at TDR, brought together researchers working in the Global South to share experiences and best practices for ensuring equitable research partnerships in global health.

A BMJ publication outlines several recommendations stemming from the roundtable discussion in the following areas:

  • Engaging communities
  • Flexibility in funding
  • Building research capacity
  • Committing to gender equality
  • Redistributing power in research partnerships

ESSENCE and TDR have supported various initiatives to ensure equitable research partnerships including producing guidance documents such as Four approaches to supporting equitable research partnerships and Health research mentorship in low- and middle-income countries (HERMES).
