Climate change's impact on health

Climate change and loss of biodiversity affect the epidemiology of infectious diseases – altering drivers of disease, risks to populations and the effectiveness of control programmes. TDR supports research through a One Health approach to better understand these changes and inform adaptation strategies.

Preventing and responding to climate-sensitive diseases

We are strengthening the capacity of disease control programmes to use the Early Warning and Response System for climate-sensitive diseases in collaboration with WHO's Climate Change and Health unit.

Building climate-resilient health systems

We support research to generate the evidence that will enable the development of innovative strategies that increase the resilience of populations to environment-related health threats, including climate change.

Regional training centres

TDR-supported regional training centres, located in all WHO regions, conduct virtual and in-person courses on implementation research to address major global health challenges such as climate change’s impact on health.

A One Health approach to implementation research

This French-language massive open online course (MOOC) responds to the need for a One Health approach to address rising public health threats exacerbated by climate change, urbanization and the growing interface between human, animal and environmental systems.

Postgraduate training scheme

In collaboration with eight universities in LMICs, this training programme focuses on building capacity on implementation research on major global health challenges including climate change’s impact on health.
