Biography

Professor Andrea Sylvia Winkler, MD, Dr. med., PhD, Dr. med. habil., is a neuroscientist, a specialist neurologist, a senior researcher, the Co-(joint)-Director of the Center for Global Health at the Technical University of Munich, Germany, and the Founding Director of the Centre for Global Health at the University of Oslo, where she holds a professorship in Global One Health.

Her special interest lies with poverty-related diseases of the infectious (neglected tropical diseases) as well as non-infectious nature (e.g. epilepsy and stroke), global mental health with an emphasis of global neurology, zoonotic diseases (especially those that affect the central nervous system e.g. neurocysticercosis) with the ensuing One-Health concept (for communicable AND non-communicable diseases), global digital health and social sciences in Global Health.

Professor Winkler chairs The Lancet One Health Commission (together with Dr John Amuasi, KCCR, Ghana). From May 2023, she has been invited to be a visiting Professor at Harvard Medical School, Department of Global Health and Social Medicine.
