Biography

Kathrin Schuldt leads the Infectious Disease Surveillance and Control Lab Group at the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine (BNITM) in Hamburg, Germany. She focuses primarily on strengthening capacities in partner countries in the area of infectious disease surveillance and control. This work is carried out in collaboration with national health authorities to support the early detection of diseases and responses to outbreaks, as well as the development of collaborative research activities to strengthen health protection. Her research areas include genomic surveillance of pathogens, diagnostics for epidemic-prone diseases and wastewater-based epidemiology.

With over 20 years' experience, Kathrin has a strong background in epidemiology and surveillance of infectious diseases. She has participated in the Global Outbreak and Response Network (GOARN) and served as a laboratory expert for the World Health Organization (WHO). She is also a member of the steering committee of the German Epidemic Preparedness Team (SEEG).

Kathrin obtained her PhD in Biology from the University of Hamburg, Germany, and holds a Master's degree in Control of Infectious Diseases from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), UK.
