Biography

Dr Val Snewin is Head of Global Health Research Partnerships in the UK Government Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC). Val has been associated with ESSENCE since its inception in 2008 while at Wellcome Trust and has maintained an interest in research capacity strengthening throughout her career. At DHSC  Val is responsible for developing global health research activities with UK Official Development Assistance (ODA) through partnerships as well as the Department’s National Institutes of Health and Care Research (NIHR) to benefit people in low- and middle-income countries, currently with a focus including clinical trials and pandemic preparedness. Val has a PhD and post-doctoral research experience on malaria vaccines, drug-resistance and TB diagnostics, and has worked extensively in global health research initiatives, in particular in sub-Saharan Africa.
