Muna Abdi

Director of Somaliland Central Statistics Department; Principal Investigator for a Study on Female Genital Mutilation Prevention and Care

Biography

I am a mother of two sons, a wife, a researcher and a statistician with 10 years of experience of working in research at both government institutions and research institutions.

I have a master of official statistics from the Eastern Africa Statistical Training Centre.

I am the Director of Somaliland Central Statistics Department at the Ministry of Planning and National Development. I am also the Principal Investigator of a multi-country implementation research study supported by WHO and the UN Special Programme HRP on the health sector approach to preventing female genital mutilation with a research institution in Somaliland, Data and Research Solutions.

I am also a professional translator and have translated WHO FGM guidelines and tools, among other documents, into Somali.
