Nolwenn Conan is a
consultant with TDR’s Research for Implementation unit, where she has worked
since April 2023. She supports the introduction of the malaria vaccine in West
and Central Africa by developing generic implementation-research protocols
focused on malaria vaccination, as well as data‑collection tools for
vaccination coverage surveys and vaccine hesitancy assessments, and by
providing technical assistance to countries conducting these studies under the
OPT-MVAC and SIRI projects. She also contributes to implementation research
training for the WARN/CARN‑TB network and supports countries in their research
activities. In addition, she led the development of yellow fever root‑cause
analysis research packages and now contributes to their publication and
dissemination.
With a nursing background, Nolwenn began her public health career
in 2004 with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), working across West and East
Africa, Southeast Asia, and Central America in project coordination and
epidemiology positions, including in outbreak investigations. Since earning a
Master’s degree in Public Health in Developing Countries from the London School
of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 2011, she has led and coordinated
population‑based surveys and implementation/operational research projects with
MSF, Malaria Consortium and Epicentre, including work on HIV,
vaccine-preventable diseases and malaria in Southern African and Southeast
Asian countries, as well as provided technical support for Covid‑19 response
and surveillance for the Cayman Islands Health Service Authority.
