Dr Cathrine Thorstensen

Programme, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer

Biography

As the Programme, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer within TDR’s Programme Innovation and Management Unit, Cathrine supports the integration of technical and financial strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation of TDR’s portfolio of activities through indicator-based reporting, integration with WHO management systems and assistance with workplan development.

She is the key focal point for reporting to governing bodies and core fund contributors. Cathrine also supports initiatives aimed at social innovation to improve health care delivery and access, community engagement and ethics in research and the engagement with the TDR Global community of researchers from disease endemic countries. 

After graduating as a medical doctor in France, Cathrine worked for over 20 years in the pharmaceutical industry, including 10 years in an international medical leadership position. In that capacity, she was responsible for the medical strategy and budget for the cardiovascular and metabolic portfolio, supporting 57 countries in Europe and Asia, closely working with the country medical directors and the international leadership team. She has built her broad medical affairs expertise in working closely with R&D, clinical development, regulatory affairs, legal, marketing and finance. 

In addition to her Medical Doctor degree, Cathrine has a postgraduate diploma in clinical nutrition, a postgraduate diploma in international affairs and recently completed a Masters in Global Public Health with Kings’ College London.
